Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me……I went a just a little overboard with my own birthday cake this year – my own birthday is a great chance for me to try out some ideas and this one had been floating around in my head for some time (yes I worry too, sometimes!). I wanted to create something based on all the sweets I remember as a child, plus the wonky gingerbread house on top. I’ve always been a big fan of black and white stripes and so the ideas all converged to give this end result. I took this cake into work to comply with the cakes for birthdays tradition, and once cut it didn’t last very long at all. See how many of the old fashioned sweets you remember….
