There seem to be a lot of keen fishermen in my area! This cake was a late order by the gentleman’s daughter – my first rich fruit cake for ages, which generally are better given time to age properly but I have a little trick to speed the maturing up a little. The brief was quite open, just being given a fishing theme and because I didn’t really have the time available to make sure that the figure was properly dry and stable I came up with the idea of laying him down asleep while the fish played around his line – I’m sure had he woken up they would all have quickly disappeared!
