A birthday cake for a special lady who was 100 years old. Simple, with roses and other small flowers and mostly in white with hints of pink and lilac pastels – I added the piped swirly border so that the sides didn’t look too plain.
I really enjoyed making this one – an excuse to play with sugarpaste roses and the various other flowers again, and I always enjoy the piping work too, although it does take some time. I think this probably rates among my favourite cakes so far, and the customer was happy too. Apologies for the poor photo quality.
A cake along these lines could also make a good wedding cake on a budget, or could be built into something bigger with more tiers, and obviously could easily adapt to other colour schemes too.
