Another 3D modelling challenge here, for a science fiction fan. I used to watch the TV series of Stargate so knew exactly what was needed, and looked forward to producing this right from the moment it was ordered. The extra twist was that the cake had to be suitable for someone with a dairy intolerance. Once again, the airbrush came into play and I sprayed the entire cake with a sparkly finish, and the Stargate and ramp I sprayed silver – it gives a much better finish for the metallic colours than hand painting with a brush. Because I wanted to give a “fluid” look to the Stargate centre, I did hand paint this, adding a glycerine varnish to give a wet look. I sourced some rather fancy sparklers in the shape of numbers to finish it off, and added stargate symbols to the side of the cake.
